I didn’t like Markus whatsoever and to be quite honest was not sad for one second he was dead。 😝 I think this book was written in a very straightforward and in your face manner which may not work for all readers。 At times it felt a little brash and made it a little hard to connect with these characters。 This book touches on some difficult topics (violence against women being prominent) and did keep me intrigued to the end。 I didn’t anticipate the twist at the end! Gwen Florio,
E。A。 Aymar (THE UNREPENTANT) fully hits his stride in NO HOME FOR KILLERS, which sees siblings Markus, Emily and Melinda Peña sidestep family secrets until Markus’ murder forces the sisters to face them。 It’s a rare thriller that manages such a fast pace with a meaningful exploration of family dynamics, a balance Aymar deftly handles – just as the intensity of the violence feels essential。 Also essential: the snippets of humor that leaven the heartbreak。 And Emily Peña is a badass for the ages。
T Olsen,
It's not unusual to start a story out of chronological order as a teaser, and I thought this was the case here。 Unfortunately, the story keeps jumping around, and with some strange characters, this is a messy book。 Different is good, messy is not。 It's not unusual to start a story out of chronological order as a teaser, and I thought this was the case here。 Unfortunately, the story keeps jumping around, and with some strange characters, this is a messy book。 Different is good, messy is not。 。。。more

This book was a great fast paced read。 The characters were definitely a mix of things, including psychopaths。 The plot was great and the characters were well-developed。 Overall it was a great thriller and I would highly recommend it。 Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy。

This sounded good! Love a family drama and it started off strong。 Melinda and Emily’s brother die and no one thinks it’s by accident。 Unfortunately, this story didn’t work for me。 I couldn’t connect to any of the characters。 By the end I was skimming just to see where it would go。 I didn’t guess the twist, but it didn’t blow me away。Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas and Mercer for my arc in exchange for my honest review。 Publish Date: Feb 1, 2023

Like a wood chip? Is that even something people say?I also really don’t like his use of fragmented sentences。 “Flipped a switch, and the bathroom floor warmed under her bare feet。” It took me three times of reading it to understand the purpose of what he wrote, but the beginning of chapter eleven makes me crazy - “Melinda remembered once…” - I’m really not into this author’s writing style。The author doesn’t seem to have attention to detail, in the sense of following his own timeline or emphasizing in detail the things that actually matter。 Case in point - within a few paragraphs of each other there are two separate comments about the length of Rebecca and Markus’s relationship before she got pregnant。 In one paragraph it says a year and a a half。 A few paragraphs later, it says she found out she was pregnant after six months。 Disparate details like this make me lose trust in the storyteller and, frankly, just make me frustrated and want to DNF the book。Everyone in the book has anger issues, and I can’t quite keep characters straight because the development just isn’t there for me to remember who is who。 Once I got to page 200, it was much easier to keep the characters straight, especially because everything that came out of Emily’s mouth was the most annoying thing on earth to me。 The entire scene and conversation about Emily seeing Rick’s junk was utterly pointless and completely tasteless。As an avid reader and someone that studied both creative and journalistic writing in college and graduate school, I’m a firm believer in the camp that every word matters - it should either be developing a character, defining a relationship, moving along the plot, or setting a scene。 I think a major reason why this book frustrates me so much is that much of the text, especially a lot of the dialogue has zero purpose。I only made it to page 200。 。。。more

I received this book as an advanced readers copy。 The first 90 pages were hard to get into。 I found the initial pace slow, the three sibling story lines to be completely different。 I was worried how the author would merge them to make it feel cohesive OR if this was just going to be a book with three different plots。 By the 90th page, around when Rebecca came into play, I was invested。 I found myself moving through the middle of this book eager to know more。 I connected with Emily's character, s I received this book as an advanced readers copy。 The first 90 pages were hard to get into。 I found the initial pace slow, the three sibling story lines to be completely different。 I was worried how the author would merge them to make it feel cohesive OR if this was just going to be a book with three different plots。 By the 90th page, around when Rebecca came into play, I was invested。 I found myself moving through the middle of this book eager to know more。 I connected with Emily's character, she is obviously a bit out of her mind and eccentric but I found her endearing。 The Markus plot in the end seemed a little predictable if you are paying attention, but I liked that my prediction was right。 You're meant to not like Markus, and I didn't。 So ultimately I think the author achieved this really well。 Even when some positives of the character come to light, it didn't really move the needle for me on who he was。 Melinda I could take or leave。 I think of the three siblings she was probably written the least interesting to me。 You sort of understand the "locked away" room through one storyline of her social work, but for the most part this didn't feel developed。 The last 30 pages did what a lot of thrillers do, the "oh shit we need to wrap this up" so everything in the last 30 pages moved INCREDIBLY quickly and felt a little disjointed。 All in all I enjoyed this book, I looked forward to picking it up each night and I really think the middle of this book is a page turner。 I would definitely read more books from this author。 I also lived in the DC area for 12 years, the shoutouts to Rosslyn and the wonderland ballroom (ugh! Take me back)。 The author being from the area does what a lot of other authors don't do well。。。 write about DC correctly。 。。。more

This thriller didn't quite land for me, though I did finish it because I was curious to see how it would end, and there was a slight twist at the end that was mostly satisfying。Pros: Fast-paced, highlights big issues like poverty, misogyny and the extreme range of violence against women。Cons: Doesn't go far beneath the surface of these issues, with characters who aren't as nuanced as I would have liked, and some of the action in the novel feels very logistically unfeasible。 The overall conceit o This thriller didn't quite land for me, though I did finish it because I was curious to see how it would end, and there was a slight twist at the end that was mostly satisfying。Pros: Fast-paced, highlights big issues like poverty, misogyny and the extreme range of violence against women。Cons: Doesn't go far beneath the surface of these issues, with characters who aren't as nuanced as I would have liked, and some of the action in the novel feels very logistically unfeasible。 The overall conceit of justifiable (or not) violence to punish violence went too far for my taste。 。。。more

Aymar's latest doesn't disappoint。 The book is fast-paced, but Aymar also takes time to create fully developed characters whose motivations, passions, and fears feel real。 I love how the song lyrics resonate with the themes and action in the story, and I really enjoyed the sisters' relationship。 There is violence in this book, but it never feels gratuitous。 Another hit out of the park from a talented, rising star。 Aymar's latest doesn't disappoint。 The book is fast-paced, but Aymar also takes time to create fully developed characters whose motivations, passions, and fears feel real。 I love how the song lyrics resonate with the themes and action in the story, and I really enjoyed the sisters' relationship。 There is violence in this book, but it never feels gratuitous。 Another hit out of the park from a talented, rising star。 。。。more

E。A。 Aymar’s NO HOME FOR KILLERS is a breathtakingly paced thriller; a character-driven journey of rage and justice that will leave you pondering the subtleties between good and evil, and right and wrong。 Violent yet sensitive, Aymar’s command of the noir thriller is on full display here, in what is absolutely his best book yet。 — Jennifer Hillier, USA Today bestselling author of THINGS WE DO IN THE DARK and LITTLE SECRETS

A gripping read, full of action with some really mixed up characters!! Psychopaths ( they are always worse in pairs!), fantasist ( a very intelligent person with ADHD) an obsessive sadist (what a mixed up boy!!!), a father in denial, a sister who had an emotional breakdown, because she was unable to save the world , unrequited love all over the place! and total dispear for those left。 I was totally exhausted by the end。 Would definitely recommend it 👌

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the copy of No Home For Killers。 This was a hard read for me。 I liked how we learned about Melinda’s past job and how it affected her。 I liked and understood why Emily was doing what she was doing。 How it all came together was a little confusing to me because of how the book was written because it jumped around so much。 The story was interesting, but the execution of it didn’t grab me。

Utterly gripping! Melinda and Emily are both great characters — strong sisters with their own demons and their own way of handling life's challenges。 (One of them has a method of doing so that is a bit more, ahem, illegal。) A little violent, a little funny, and a lot engrossing。 Utterly gripping!
